Included in this resource:

  • 25 Spring picture prompts BOTH PRIMARY and REGULAR lined options
  • DIGITAL prompts
  • 2 blank writing templates
  • Sight word reference printable
  • Writing checklist anchor chart (2 styles)
  • Seesaw images included to upload if you want

Each page has a very basic picture and vocabulary words students may very likely use in their writing. I believe the picture should be simple so students can use their creativity while writing. Students can use the printables for different types: narrative, informative, and opinion writing. My favorite part of these printables is the student checklist reminder at the bottom of the paper. I have also included a basic sight word list to post in your writing center to assist with those tricky words.

I believe students should be given choices as often as possible. To organize, I mount one on a file folder, tape the sides, laminate, and put copies in the folder for them to easily choose. With so many choices, this writing center will be engaging for months!

I am very excited to have these writing prompts to use in my literacy centers as a writing center for my students. After hearing Christina talk about the stencil stories that her students love, I look forward to trying these with my students as well! This week will be our first week trying them out and I can’t wait to see their first grade stories!

    • Christina

Hi Kimberly, What a sweet compliment! I can wait to hear how confident your students are at writing as you provide scaffolds to support them! Thank you for sharing, -Christina

I love the Student Editing Cards and writing prompts. I printed the cards on colored card stock and laminated them. The students keep them at their desks and get them out when they are writing to check their work. The writing prompts are wonderful. Students are more independent because they have the word bank.

These are perfect for my second grade writers! Coming off of 18 months of hybrid learning (and no physical writing), writing is not their favorite. The prompts are just enough to get their creative juices flowing and the simple picture starter really helps them dream up the story they want to write. The editing checklist at the bottom are the perfect reminder for my writers.

This was so helpful for my ell students. I love the visuals and checklist. The digital version is great for hybrid and assignments

This file had such a big impact with my reluctant writers! The word bank, visuals and checklist made helped the reluctant writers by giving them the tools they needed to become independent and confident writers. .Instead of struggling to write one sentence, my students were writing to the bottom of the page.
