Word study units are different from traditional spelling units. Instead of giving students a list of words to memorize each week, these word study units focus on a specific phonics skill. Students are given explicit instruction on the phonics pattern and then have activities throughout the week that allow them to practice the phonics skill, and investigate and discover the patterns in words.
Included in this resource:
- A research-based, SoR-aligned Phonics Scope & Sequence
- Master Word List
- Word cards
- 3 Practice Printables for Each Unit
- EDITABLE Printable Templates
- A Family Letter for Each Unit
Note: This resource only includes printables and other items listed above. Want more? Check out my yearlong word study BUNDLE for assessments & more:

I use this resource every week in my class. This is what my students take home to practice for their assessment on Friday. They love doing the different activities.

This is probably one of my absolute favorite resources ever! I used it every week for our phonics focus skill work. In the beginnign we did the whole page together and now I usually do only one or two and then for the mapping activity I will tell them each word and have them repeat it so they know what word to map when they get to their seats. I love the cheat sheet for the mapping pages in case I am not 100% sure about what the picture is supposed to be. It is a great way for the kids to practice that focus skill each day for 8-10 minutes.

All the word studies for each year level are amazing. I use them with children who have dysgraphia, dyslexia and dyscalculia, the older children appear to enjoy the work as they enjoy the variety. I have noticed a great improvement in reading and identifying the phoneme and how the phoneme is written. Thank you Christina every one of your resources are fantastic.
